Last night Adam Lambert was on fire on American Idol. The theme for the Top 8 show was, ‘The Year They Were Born’. The contestants had to choose a song that was released the year they were born. Adam Lambert was born on January 29, 1980 and he decided to sing, ‘Mad World’ by Tears for Fears. It was an outstanding performance, and the song choice was perfect. This song allowed him to show-off his incredible vocal range.

It was an outstanding performance which earned him a standing ovation by Simon Cowell. Very few contestants have ever given a performance which caused Simon to give them a standing ovation. In fact all the judges gave Adam a standing ovation. Well done Adam!

Judges comments:

Adam was the last contestant to perform, and they were running out of time so only Simon Cowell gave any comments.

Simon Cowell “Adam, the bad news is we are running out of time. The good news is I’m the only one who’s going to be talking, and I think words are unnecessary, but I want to give you a standing ovation.”

Adam Lambert is without question safe from elimination tonight. He was amazing last night, and it is safe to say that he stole the show.

Last night the Top 9 on American Idol competed once again to see who will be sent home this week. The theme was itunes Top 100. Adam Lambert sang ‘Play that Funky Music’ by ‘Wild Cherry’. Once again Adam was great! He wasn’t as dominant as he was last week, however it was still a very solid performance.

Michael Sarver was voted off American Idol last night. For the second week in a row he was in the bottom 2. Last week he was in the bottom 2 however, it was Alexis Grace who was voted off the show. This week Michael Sarver and Matt Giraud were in the bottom 2. This time Michael was sent home.

Michael Sarver was allowed a second chance to sing “The Temptations - Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” hoping that the judges would overrule the votes of viewers. However, after the judges confered Simon Cowell said, “Michael, you’re going home. Sorry.”

So, we are down to 9 contestants and the competition is heating up. The nine remaining contestants on American Idol Season 8 are, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Corkrey and Scott MacIntyre.

Wow! Adam Lambert was incredible last night! He was by FAR the best performer on the night. Last night was Motown Night on American Idol. The top ten remaining contestants on American Idol had to pick a song from the Motown era. There were 2 special guests this week, Berry Goody who is the founder of Motown records and Smokey Robinson who help the contestants get ready for the show. Adam Lambert sang, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - Tracks of my Tears.

Smokey Robinson who is the writer of this song actually gave Adam a standing ovation after Adam performed!!!! That is how impressive Lambert was last night. Smokey commented before the performance that he had never heard anybody perform the song in that way.

Adam Lambert surprised a lot of people by coming out with a completely different look for last nights show. Adam didn’t have nail polish on, he was wearing a white suit, slicked back hair etc. He looked great!

Here is what the judges had to say about it:

Kara DioGuardiKara DioGuardi said, “I Gotta say, I don’t stand up a lot, but I have to stand up for that. I’ve got six words for you, “one of the best performances of the night” (that’s eight Kara). You showed artistry on that stage. Awesome!”

Paula AbdulPaul Abdul said, “Adam, what I love so much about this season is that someone like you comes along, that is completely in his own league, and you have that gutted instinct to have an element of surprise. By the way I did take a good look at your face, and I love the clean look. No nail polish tonight. The hair. Handsome, very handsome and classy! You know it’s amazing to me how there’s an element of surprise, but it’s just an extension of who you are as an artist. That’s what makes it so exciting, and you are exciting! You are it!”

Simon Cowell “Well Adam I’m going to disagree with Kara, because it was the best performance of the night. Sorry, but you were just able to sum up everything we’ve been trying to say through the night about originality, choosing a great song, being a relevant recording artist and it also shows what a brilliant songwriter Smoky is. This song sounds as good today as it did 30 years ago or however long it was and you tonight have really emerged as a star. Congratulations! Well done!”

Randy JacksonRandy Jackson said, “You know what I’m so happy about is from day one when I saw you, I was like this guy has the range, he can do anything. Tonight you showed that you are not just some kind of Indie, cool Indie rocker or whatever. You can pull it down, you can straighten it up, you got the suit on and you sang such tender moments, still using your falsetto, and everything that’s in your arsenal. Unbelievably hot! The bomb tonight!”

What a dominant force Adam Lambert was last night. I can’t wait to see what he does next week.

Here is what the other contestants sang:

Matt Giraud
Marvin Gaye - Let’s get it on

Kris Allen
Marvin Gaye - How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)

The Supremes - You Can’t Hurry Love

Megan Corkrey

Michael Sarver

Country night last night on American Idol. Not exactly Adam Lambert’s gendre. Adam Lambert sang Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire, and he did what he did best, he completely made the song his own. There were absolutely no similarities with any country that I have ever heard. Prior to Adam’s performance there was a short interview where Adam revealed that he was pretty nervous about Country Week. It is nice that they did the Country theme so early in the show, because I think Adam’s performance may have shocked some American Idol fans. Adam Lambert is a true one of a kind performer, but something as radical as last nights performance could have left some fans a little confused (wondering where the country went).

Randy Travis was the special guest on the evening. He helped the contestants rehearse for their performances. He was a little taken aback by Adam’s nailpolish. Pretty funny. They certainly are not from the same background.

I think Randy Jackson’s comments are the most appropriate. Randy said, “I think it was really great. If you can imagine ‘9 inch nails’ do in a country song that’s what it is. It’s current! It’s young! It’s hot!” Being a fan of Nine Inch Nails I have to agree with him. It was very different, but I really liked it.

Here is what the judges said:
Kara DioGuardi“Adam. So, Adam does country music, that’s very interesting, I’ve never seen that type of a country rendition,, but the fire the Egyptian thing all a little strange. You know I don’t know what to make of that. I got my drama, that love from you, those I is they were very fabulous. It was strange. Strange, but I liked it. It left me confused and sort of happy. I don’t know.”

Paula Abdul“So this is what I think, and I find is truly amazing about you. You are really someone who stands out. Who is true to who you are as a artist. I know its country music week. The choice of music was great choice of song. That Middle Eastern sitar sounds, this sounds a little bit like cashmere led zeppelin feeling to me. You’re either a quick study were born natural I think it’s a bit of both. And you’re raising the bar that I expect more and more great things out of you.”

Simon Cowell “I think what randy was trying to say was, ” what the hell was that”. I mean sorry, but I would never go to Nashville if I was you, Adam. There are a lot of people throwing their televisions out the window at this point. I thought it was absolute indulgent rubbish if, if you want my honest opinion. I mean really, really, really horrific.”

Randy Jackson“I think it was really great. If you can imagine 9 inch nails do in a country song that’s what it is. It’s current! It’s young! It’s hot!”

Here is what the other contestants sang:

Anoop Desai
Willie Nelson - You were always on my mind

Alexis Grace
Dolly Parton - Jolene

Allison Iraheta
Patti Lovely - Blame it on your heart

Kris Allen
Garth Brooks - You make you feel my love

Scott Macintyre
Martina Mcbride - Wild Angels

Lil Rounds
Martina McBride - Independence Day

Megan Corkrey
Patsy Cline - Walkin’ after midnight

Danny Gokey
Carrie Underwood - Jesus Take The Wheel

Matt Giraud
Carrie Underwood - So small

Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez are voted off American Idol. Last night we received the results show from the first night of singing (Top 13). No surprise at all that Adam Lambert is safe. There is no way that he would be voted off American Idol at this point. He was the best performer on Michael Jackson night anyway. Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez were voted off the show. Jasmine Murray sang “I’ll Be There” and Jorge Nunez sang “Never Gonna Say Goodbye”. Neither performance was great, but neither was that bad either. There is a very talented group of singers on American Idol this year.

The show featured an appearance by Kelly Clarkson, and she sang her new single “my life would suck without you”. There was also a fun performance by all of the American Idol contestants singing a mix of Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 songs. Don’t forget that this week’s theme was Michael Jackson.

Great Job Adam. Can’t wait to see what you do next week.

Adam Lambert was the best performer last night. Once again Adam showed us why he is such a favorite to win American Idol this year. Last nights theme was Michael Jackson. Contestants had to pick a Michael Jackson or a Jackson 5 song. Adam Lambert sang Michael Jackson - Black or White at it was outstanding! He has such a stage presence and Paula Abdul is right, it is shocking that he has not been picked up by someone over the years.

Check it out (No Video - Copyright):

What the judges said!

Paula Abdul“All right Adam I’m gonna say this, never in the history of American idol, all seven seasons leading up to now seen someone so comfortable, seasoned on the stage. I don’t even notice that stage, because my eyes are transfixed on you. You’re inate. You know you are as an artist, and mary fashion with music. You got the whole package, and I believe with all my heart will be seeing you are running through to the end. In the finals.”

Simon Cowell “Adam look, that was tonight to me in a totally differently league than anything else we’ve seen tonight. Whether it’s your stage experience before, you’re comfortable. To make Michael Jackson work you’ve got to be over the top, you’ve got to be comfortable with it. It was an original version. The vocals were terrific. Most importantly it was something people are gonna talk about.”

Randy Jackson“Let me just add. Since day one when we saw you, you were the most current, the most right now. I’m telling you do dude, listen, you could make a record rate now, sail straight to the top of the charts. I love who you are! I love what you do! Check it out, once again, if you got it, you got it, and baby you got it!”

Kara DioGuardi“He does! I mean what can I say that they have already said. You hit notes I didn’t even know existed, some of the notes he hits. It’s just all the way up and I hope Michael Jackson is watching this tonight.”

Only an insane person would believe that Lambert has a chance of being voted off American Idol tonight after comments like that. Not to mention that last nights show might have been his best yet.

There was a nice video of Adam Lambert’s mother and father before Adam sang and they seem like they have always been supportive of Adam’s dreams. Adam actually said that if this were 5 or 6 years ago he probably would have cracked under the pressure. It is wildly obvious how comfortable he is on stage and there is no doubt his prior stage experience helps him enormously.

Here are the other Micheal Jackson - Jackson 5 songs that the contestants sang:

Lil Rounds - The Way You Make Me Feel
Scott MacIntyre - Keep The Faith
Danny Gokey - PYT (Pretty Young Thing)
Micheal Sarver - You Are Not Alone
Jasmine Murray - I’ll Be There
Kris Allen - Remember The Time
Allison Iraheta - Give Into Me
Anoop Desai - Beat It
Jorge Nunez - Never Gonna Say Goodbye
Megan Corkrey - Rockin’ Robin
Adam Lambert - Black or White
Matt Giraud - Human Nature
Alexis Grace - Dirty Diana

It was also announced that there will be a surprise change of rules involving the judges and that it will be announced tonight. One can only guess. Season 8 on American Idol has had more than it’s fair share of surprises.
Loved it Adam. We can’t wait for more.
